I'm in a movie!

Well....I'm an extra, a nurse to be exact. But I will be on film!

I'm pretty excited. This was just sort of a spur-of-the-moment, what the heck, why not decisions. The name of the film is Love and Other Drugs, directed by Edward Zwick. It stars Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal. Its due to come out sometime in 2010.
The three scenes I was cast for only have Jake in them.

It was such a fun and exciting experience! I am a huge movie person. So to actually be behind the scenes watching the directors, crew, actors, etc. at work was so exciting for me. Jake Gyllenhaal is even better looking in person than I thought (haha!) I've seen most of his movies and he has always been one of my favorite actors to watch. So to see him, and work with him (even if for only a few minutes of film time) was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
I'm not sure when it will be in theaters, but when I know I will post an update! And I'll describe my scenes and what I was wearing so everyone can look for me!

There are two other movies also filming around now here in the wonderful city of Pittsburgh. One with Russell Crowe and another with Denzel Washington. Read this article to learn more!
PS. in the first scene I did, Jake puts his arm around my right shoulder! I hope they don't cut it out lol. :-)

Lately...

Over the past few weeks I read quite a few books. Last post, I wrote about My Sister's Keeper. Since finishing that book, I gobbled up For One More Day and The Last Lecture. I also read three others which were more for the equestrian people: The Hearts of Horses, Riding Lessons, and Flying Changes. They were all wonderful books. Some took longer than others, but all of them were worth my while.

Mitch Albom is a wonderful author. For One More Day was full of emotion and exceeded my expectations. I found myself eagerly reading each page. I had to tell my eyes not to skip ahead to the next sentence before I finished the one I was on! I loved it. My husband and I picked up his latest book, Have A Little Faith. My husband is a huge Mitch Albom fan. I can't wait to dig in!

The Last Lecture
was a book I picked up on-sale at Books-A-Million about seven months ago. I knew it was something I wanted to read eventually, so I put it on my shelf of "to read" books. I had a general idea on what the book was about. I knew it was about the CMU professor, Randy Pausch. I knew it was going to be sad and I knew the author has since passed away.
(Randy and his family)
What an amazing book it was. I love his outlook on life--or what little he has left while composing his final lecture to be addressed at Pittsburgh's Carnegie Mellon University (just a quick walk down the street from where I attended the college of Pitt). But it was so packed full of emotion. It was definitely a tear-jerker. And I loved how Randy didn't just write about his inevitable death. He wrote about his life, his loves, his family, his accomplishments. Highly recommended!

The Hearts of Horses, by Molly Gloss, was another novel I picked up at Books-A-Million. It had an appealing cover and was on the first bookshelf when I walked into the store. It was that month's suggested reading, or something along those lines. I put it on the shelf with the many others I had purchased with the intention of reading in the future. It was a little slow to get into. Its set in the early 1900s in the West and tells the story of a female "bronco buster." Although, she uses a more gentle approach to breaking horses. More of a "horse whisperer" technique, if you will. Once it got going, I was really into the story. It was easy to paint a picture of this time frame and the way of life for them.

Riding Lessons and Flying Changes were both written by Sara Gruen (also the author of Water For Elephants, one I hope to read soon). They are about a former Equestrian Olympic contender who lost who she was after a terrible accident when she was eighteen-years-old. Twenty years later, she returns home to help with her dying father. Her parents own a world-class equestrian facility. Throughout the stories, the main character deals with skelatons in the closet about her past and heals the old wounds. They are really great, but would appeal more to an equestrian. I enjoyed them of course! :)

Right now I am working on Nicholas Sparks' The Lucky One. I can already tell its going to be another edge-of-the-seat page-turner!

Great Book

I've been reading a lot lately. One of the latest books I read was My Sister's Keeper. I got the book a few months ago when the movie was in theaters. But I hadn't read it until a few weeks ago. What a wonderful book. I highly recommend it to anyone! Jodi Picoult does such a great job, each chapter is done in a different person's point of view. And between each person, even the fonts change. It is brilliant. If you've seen the movie, it doesn't matter, still read the book. The endings are completely different. Jodi even says on her website that once she sold the movie rights, she gave up the rights to be able to say "yes" or "no" about what they do to the film. So she is clear to note that she did not have any input in the changes and the different ending. Either way, I would still like to see the movie and I hear it is still a great film, despite the changes.

Take Me Out To The Ball Game...

This past Saturday, Tony and I ventured downtown to catch a Pirates' Ball Game. The team has been pretty bad for years, but the park is beautiful and its just fun to go to a baseball game. The weather was perfect, 75 or so and sunny! A cool breeze coming off the rivers, not a cloud in the sky. We had great seats in section 116, directly behind the home plate! Our seats were under the over-hang so we didn't have to worry about squinting or getting too hot in the sun.

Tony hasn't really been downtown much. The first time we met I tried to take him down to Station Square, but got horrible lost and we drove by from the other side of the river. I pointed "there it is!" but we gave up and went home after that! haha! So it was nice to get a GPS (and I've gotten better driving downtown since our first adventure) and make our way down to PNC Park. I think Tony had fun :)

Been a few months!

Its been a few months since I last posted. There hasn't been a whole lot going on really! Just enjoying the summer.
This past weekend Tony and I drove out to Chicago to site-see and see the Harry Potter Exhibition at the Museum of Science and Industry. It was part of my Birthday gift. I have recently become a huge Harry Potter fan. When the books first came out, I was not interested in reading them. When the movies came out, I only saw the first one and didn't think much of it. But in my final semester of college, Fall 2007, I had to read the 4th Harry Potter book for a Literature class. I was hooked. So when I heard about the temporary exhibit in Chicago, I really wanted to go for it! There were authentic costumes and props from the six movies that have been filmed so far. I really enjoyed it!
Some of the other things we did was eat at The Cheesecake Factory (it was my first visit, yum!), take a 25mph elevator to the 94th floor of the John Hancock building, sit at the shore of Lake Michigan, ride in a horse-drawn carriage (first time for that too!), and pick up a few suveniers along the way. It was a nice little weekend trip.

Lost Kitty Fright

Thursday morning I was packing for a horse show we would be leaving for later in the afternoon. I had my suit cases on the bed and my kitties kept playing in them. I remember I had piles of clothes everywhere and drawers open as well. We have these two plastic storage sets with three drawers in each. They are the type you would find at Wal-Mart for about fifteen dollars. They used to be in the bottom of our walk-in closet, but since we don't have a closet any longer, I put them along the wall in the bedroom next to our bed. One is for my socks and underwear and the other for Tony's. I had the top two drawers open for quite some time. I then walked away to clean my horse's stalls and organize a few other things. I remember this was the last I saw of the one kitty Malone.

Eventually I came back into the bedroom to finish up the packing, pushed all the drawers closed and got ready to go. When I went to say 'bye' to my kitties, I could only find the younger one, Rocky. No Malone anywhere. I franticly searched all of the house. I even searched around the perimeter of the house, just incase he got outside. That is when I found that one of our living room windows had slid down at the top some how. It was open about six inches and I burst into tears when I put all the signs together and jumped to the conclusion that he must have leaped out the window some how. We searched for about five or so hours before finally deciding to get in the car and drive to Ohio for the horse show. I was so upset.

My parents and brother both searched all around the house, calling for him inside and out. By Sunday, I had given up all hope on finding my precious kitty. I got home from the show that evening. I felt so sad sitting here watching the other kitty walk around, almost like he was looking for his 'big brother.' At around 1:30am I was washing my face for bed. I changed my shirt and was reaching for a hoodie on top of the plastic drawers when I froze completely. I thought I could hear Malone purring. My heart started to pound as I tried to figure out where it was coming from. I flattened to the ground to check under the bed, nothing there. I could still hear his distinct purr. What the heck? I was leaning on the drawers and then I could FEEL his purring. There was a stack of folded clothes on top so I began to tear through them, confused more and more as I dug. Still nothing! Then something made me bend down toward the louder sound and I flung open the very bottom drawer.

Out pops his ruffled head and I scooped him into my arms squealing "MALONE!" Tony had fallen asleep on the couch and he sturred a little groggy from hearing all the comotion. I started to cry and I said, "Look! I found Malone! In a drawer!!" Tony leaped up and ran to him petting him with a complete look of shock on his face. He ran to tell my parents and we all crowded around the little guy. Poor thing was trapped in there for four days. He had peed himself a few times and was a bit smelly as a result. Nothing a few kitty wipes can't fix! He woofed down a can of kitty food, fresh water, and some more dry food before running around with his brother, reunited with his family!

Final Installment to Twilight!

I finished Eclipse, book 3, the other day and anxiously dug into the fourth and final book, Breaking Dawn. So far I am 100 pages in and it is pretty good. I'm trying to figure out what I think will happen but I'm hoping she chooses to stay with Edward. I have a feeling she'll decide to stay human and go with Jacob, but we'll see! I will try not to say too much incase anyone who reads this hasn't read the books and doesn't want to hear spoilers. I know my friend Lauren has already finished the saga so she knows what happens! Don't tell me pal! :-)

New Horsey Blog!

Hey everyone! I started another blog called Equestrian Corner. It'll be all about horses. Its in my Blog List...check it out! Follow and subscribe if ya like!

Back in the 'Burgh

We moved back to Pittsburgh April 10. It was quite a journey actually! Usually the drive can take anywhere between 10 and 12 hours depending on traffic and how often we stop. Tony was supposed to get his official papers from the Marines at noon. They were being very strict and made him wait in an office until noon on the dot. Of course the past 10 days he was getting off for the day as early as 8:30 in the morning. Not Friday though! The day when we could have really used an early day. Even then, the guys who had to sign his paperwork weren't in the office so he had to walk around trying to find them. That weekend was also Easter weekend. Almost every single Marine on that base got a 96 (96 hours of leave) for the holiday and they were all getting off at noon as well. So needless to say, traffic was horrible. It took him 30 minutes just to get to the main gait--usually only takes about 10 if that. Then it took him an additional 30 minutes to get from the base to our apartment--usually 10-15 mins. It was almost 1:30 by the time Tony pulled up. He was so irritated and frustrated. But I was so excited because he was no longer an active-duty Marine! I gave him a big hug and said "Hi there civilian!" It seemed to make him relax a bit and laugh hehe.

My dad and grandpa had flown down together Wednesday afternoon. They came to help us load up and we needed the extra driver since we had 3 vehicles. I was so happy to see my dad, it had been since Christmas! So...Tony goes in to change into regular clothes and we start loading the rest of the stuff. By the time we finished packing up the truck, put my kitties in their cages in my car, vacuumed and swept the floors, turned in our keys at the office, filled up on gas, and weighed the two vehicles to get reembursed from the Marines for the move...it was about 2:30 when we hit the highway. So even if traffic was great and we did it in 10 hours that would put us getting in after midnight...

Traffic was very heavy. Dad drove the moving truck, which was a beast and it didn't get up to more than about 55 mph. It was heavy and blowing all over the place. So it was a slow start on our journey. We ended up spending the night in a pet-friendly hotel outside of Quantico. It was nice to rest and get a shower. We planned to leave at around 8:00 (I think, or maybe 9:00) When we reached for Malone's kitty carrier, he bolted under the bed. It was like he was saying "noooo we just got here! I don't want to go into the cage again!" Tony lifted the whole bed up so I could reach for him. Thats when I said "oh my gosh, Tony! There is a whole in the box spring and he is CRAWLING into it!" Yup, Malone found a whole and got up INSIDE the box spring. He was crawling all around in there. I was afraid he'd get tangled up in the metal stuff in there. So we carefully turned it on its side, found him in the bottom corner, then cut it open and pulled him out! He was wide-eyed but he agreeably went into his carrier and settled down in the cage for the ride.

On the road we went. We drove for a few hours, by-passing the busiest highways since traffic was still pretty heavy for the holiday weekend. When we hit 81 we saw a sign saying the road was closed ahead and to follow the detour. I thought "hmmm I hope this doesn't slow us much"...little did I know! Shortly after, traffic came to a complete hault. We inched along barely a mile in about 45 minutes. This went on for 4 miles, taking us almost 2 hours and 30 minutes just to get to the detour. My mom was on the phone with us looking at the traffic situation online saying it had been closed like that since 8am. We were there around 11:00 and 12:00. I think it was so poorly handled, escpecially since it was a holiday weekend with lots of travelers! The detour took us through a tiny town much like the area I am from. This place wasn't built to handle detour traffic from rt81. So we were inching along in there too. Finally we got on the road again and it was mostly smooth from there. We got home around 4:00-5:00 at last!

I feel so happy to be home. It took a few days to even sink in that I'm finally back home for good. I don't have to pack up 2 days later and drive back to North Carolina. I've been trying to make the addition homey and cute. Its getting tough since I have a lot of stuff and not sure where to put it all! Plus my kitties like to be in the middle of everything I do. But its coming along! Sunday mom made a delicious Easter dinner and my grandparents came over. Easter is one of my favorite holidays, it was great to get home right before it!

Its definitely nice to finally take care of Fanny and Dale. My parents had to do it for a whole year. And it wasn't an easy one. Both equines had a really rough summer with colics and injuries. I appreciate all the work they did and all the stress and money to care for them. I'm happy that I'm back and the burden has been lifted off them. Tony and I built a little riding area in the back for me. As soon as this weather breaks I'm going to take them back there and start conditioning them. Fanny might want to show this year, but we'll see. And I have always wanted to show Dale, maybe this year is his year!

Twilight Update...

I finished book two on Saturday! It was great and I'm eager to dig into the last two books. I am moving on Friday so I don't have as much time to read the third one, but I'm already over 100 pages in. I better slow down or I'll be sad after I finish gobbling down these books, anxious for more!

Back to the packing and cleaning grind!

PS It was so warm and sunny this weekend, I happily spent both days of the weekend on the beach for a couple hours. I have some nice color to move home with! :)

Twilight Saga

Last weekend, my husband and I got the movie Twilight. I had been curious to see it but had my expectations low-I'd heard such mixed reviews about it and the books. Let me say that I was pleasantly surprised! The movie was wonderful. The characters were so easy to fall in love with. Its amazing how Meyer (author of the saga) was able to make the vampire characters so enchanting and appealing that you are able to love them, rather than fear and disgust them for being an evil undead creature.

Stephanie Meyer is rather young, the bio on her website tells us she was born in 1973 (she would have only been 12 when I was born). Twilight was her first published book. It came out in 2005. It mustn't have been as popular as it has been the last year or two becuase I never noticed it in the stores actually. Now, of course, the stores have huge Twilight displays with shirts and bags and posters and more. I wasn't looking, but I had been in book stores for college and I can remember waiting in the very long line at Pitt's bookshop looking around at the Fiction books surrounding me. I can't recall ever seeing it.

While between theater and DVD, I decided I'd give the books a shot. At the time I was finishing up the final two Harry Potter books, so I figured I'd get to Twilight eventually.

Last week, I had a great coupon for Books-A-Million so I decided to just go for it and get the Saga. I read the first book in less than a week, it was two pages shy of 500. I was so drawn into this story I could not put it down. Even though I had seen the book and knew what happens, I still wanted to read the story and easily swallowed 100 pages in one sitting. I realize this book as been criticized a lot, but I truly enjoyed it.
Last night I started the second installment of the Saga called New Moon. I told my husband "I hope I can finish it by November when the movie comes out." This was obviously before I read page one of the first book! At the rate I am going, New Moon will be finished by Monday.
Eclipse is book three, and I have heard its fantastic. The one Twilight fan said to me, "you know...book two was great, but oh my gosh book three! You will NOT be disappointed!" and I quickly told her not to give me any details.

Breaking Dawn, the final book, is the most recent and final addition to the Saga. Where I am now in the second book, I won't say what happens incase anyone who is reading this hasn't read it and plans to, my curiousity is going out of control wondering what could be in the next 1100+ pages of this Saga.
....So what on earth is it that makes Twilight so appealing!? Its directed toward teenagers, and obviously I am not a teenager any longer. Maybe its because we can all relate, even just a little? I mean no, I've never been madly in love with a vampire who drives a shiney silver Volvo (haha), but I can remember being a young girl in love with a boy who she knew was wrong or would never be able to have a future with him. And Bella is a realistic character. She is clumsy, akward, and unsure of where she wants to be in the next few years (although you readers know where she really wants to be!). I think Kristen Stewart is the perfect Bella. Kristen is really a beautiful and talented young lady, I am very excited to see her grow into a wonderful actress!

And Edward, he is so beautifully described in the story. And the things he says are so romanitic, you don't have to be a gushy person to melt over them. Then seeing the character on screen played by the stunningly handsom Robert Pattinson, how could you not fall in love with Edward!? I remember seeing Robert as Cedric in the 4th and part of 5th Harry Potter films and thinking "wow, he is so attractive!" I read somewhere that Robert beat out 3000 others to claim the part of Edward, I can see why! He's really made a name for himself now by playing Edward. Suddenly girls are going crazy over him, wonder if he was ready for it?!

OBX in a Day!

This post is a little late...

The other weekend, my husband and I took a drive north east together to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. From where we're at, it was only a little over 3 hours of a drive. My family and I used to drive down to the OBX every summer for family vacations. I remember going in I think it was 1994, 1995, and 1996. The summer vacations had to stop after I got involved in showing horses and we moved my pony Dale to our home, unfortunately doing both wasn't going to work out! We did get down there as a family once more in 2000. I have such fantastic memories of these vacations, even though my brother and I fought quite a bit! They were still wonderful vacations. We rented the same condo every year, the exact same unit. The condo was called Sea Walk. It was a two bedroom little home right on the beach. It probably took all of 35 seconds to get from the back door to the waves breaking on the shore. My mom is the mega beach bum of the family, I know this was some of her favorite days as well. One of my favorite memories is when my mom woke up very early before the sun rose. She put a tape in the video recorder and tried to capture the beautiful sunrise. My mom is not a morning person, never has been! But in her morning daze she must have loaded the tape backwards and when we went to watch the video it was nothing but black and white 'snow' on the TV. What a bummer, but a funny story to tell at the same time. :)

Anyway...Tony has never been to the Outer Banks! He has been living here in Jacksonville for 4 years during his time in the Marines. This is pretty much the only opinion he has been able to form of Coastal Carolina. And quite frankly, this area does not do Coastal North Carolina any justice! Sometimes while I am here I forget I'm on the Coast of NC. He seemed to really enjoy the OBX. It was late March on a Sunday morning/afternoon. So there weren't many tourists and it wasn't crowded. We went to Jockey's Ridge. We took tons of pictures. I always found Jockey's Ridge so impressive--a huge pile of sand mountains in the middle of everything. I have only been on the dunes once before when I was about 9 years old and our trip to the top was cut short by a sudden thunderstorm and we had to leave. I truly enjoyed climbing the sand mountains and taking in the view at the top.

We then parked at the public beach access and walked around on the beach. It was a little chillier by the ocean since its still very early in the season, but it was still very beautiful. I tried to soak up the sand and the sound of the ocean. I love the smell of the beach and how my skin and hair feels from the salt in the air.

Something I never visited in all my trips to the OBX is the Wright Brothers Memorial. So Tony and I figured "why not?" and went to check it out. It was actually rather interesting. The dunes have been preserved and the area declared a National Park. Grass has been planted on the dunes to keep from the wind blowing the sand around. There is a museum in the area with an exact replica inside of the first plane. There are also blocks to mark the exact location of the take off spot and the 4 landing spots from that day in December over 100 years ago when the brothers first flew. At the top of the largest grass-covered dune is the memorial. I've seen it from the road but seeing it in person was impressive! It was a beautiful sunny day so we hiked to the top to take pictures and enjoy the view. I really enjoyed it!

Last but not least, we enjoyed lunch at a little local bar and grill called Tourtuga's Lie. This is a family tradition and one of my favorite places to eat in the whole world! On every trip to the OBX we have gone here to eat probably 2 or 3 times each vacation, maybe more! Its delicious, the service is extremely friendly, and the prices are very reasonable. Its one of those places that only locals and seasoned visitors know about. As a kid, I religiously ordered the same item on the menu--gilled cheese! I ordered that again, and my mom's regular item--steamed veggie platter. It was wonderful! Tony had some very juicy looking burger that he really enjoyed. I couldn't finish it all so I got the rest of my veggies to go and finished it off on the car ride home.

This little day trip was fantastic. We didn't spend very much, just a tank of gas and some money on a few suveniers and our lunch. I took nearly 100 pictures and felt so happy once we got back to Jacksonville. Living so close all these months, I had to take advantage and make the drive up! Some day I hope we can all go down as a family again, in the summer of course to soak up the sun!

Let the Packing Begin!

My last day at work was Friday on Free Ice Day. I ran around non-stop from 10:30 that morning until 5:00 that evening when I dodged the mass amount of customers and left. My last day at Rita's! I felt sad leaving, my boss has a lot on his hands witha young family and two businesses. But there is so much that needs to be done to get ready for our big move back to PA, so I had to finish work a little early to give me the time I need to do everything.

Today I finally had the time to really dig into my packing. It feels great to know I will be home in about 18 days! It is a tad overwhelming thinking about everything that needs to be done and figure out which box to pack which in. I have to make sure everything is labled and organized since we are moving into the addition at my parents' for a few months, maybe a little longer. So I won't need really any of my kitchen items and have to make sure they are packed up snug to be stored away until Tony and I get our own house. Organizing is definitely a strong-point of mine, so I shouldn't have a lot of problems!

One of my favorite songs

I absolutely love this song. These are such beautiful lyrics. I wish I could meet Taylor Swift and just give her a hug for writing such a wonderful song with words that really come from the heart. And I can relate to a lot of this song.

Everyone should get this CD! (buy it not download, support her!)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Taylor Swift
Fearless album
"The Best Day"
I'm five years old
It's getting cold
I've got my big coat on
I hear your laugh
And look up smiling at you
I run and run
Past the pumpkin patch
And the tractor rides
Look now -- the sky is gold
I hug your legs and fall asleep
On the way home
I don't know why all the trees change in the fall
I know you're not scared of anything at all
Don't know if Snow White's house is near or far away
But I know I had the best day
With you today
I'm thirteen now
And don't know how my friends
Could be so mean
I come home crying and you hold me tight and grab the keys
And we drive and drive
Until we've found a town
Far enough away
And we talk and window-shop
Until I've forgotten all their names
I don't know who I'm gonna talk to
Now at school
I know I'm laughing on the car ride home with you
Don't know how long it's gonna take to feel okay
But I know I had the best day
With you today
I have an excellent father
His strength is making me stronger
God smiles on my little brother
Inside and out
He's better than I am
I grew up in a pretty house
And I had space to run
And I had the best days with you
There is a video
I found from back when I was three
You set up a paint set in the kitchen
And you're talking to me
It's the age of princesses and pirate ships
And the seven dwarfs
Daddy's smart
And you're the prettiest lady in the whole wide world
Now I know why all the trees change in the fall
I know you were on my side
Even when I was wrong
And I love you for giving me your eyes
Staying back and watching me shine
And I didn't know if you knew
So I'm taking this chance to say
That I had the best day
With you today
The Countdown Begins...
At last, we are just weeks away from our big move back to PA. This was my first year living away from my family - actually, from leaving my parents' house! I have definitely done some growing up. I remember the first few weeks were really tough. I missed my house, my family, my pets, my old job, my friends, my horses, even my old bedroom. But I told myself that this is part of growing up. I was married now and starting my life with an amazing guy. We got kittens (after 2 days here) and kept eachother company in this unsual town. Our relationship has grown even stronger. I learned to cook, learned I am really good at baking, learned to grocery shop and keep up with bills.
One month from today we will have our little temp. home all packed up in boxes. My dad and grandpa will be in a hotel about a half a mle down the road ready to help us move. And our rental truck will be parked in the spot outside (there have been so many trucks, due to the large amount of military and people moving in and out all the time, at last this one will be ours!) April 10th is the big moving day. Then it is back to PA! There are so many things I am looking forward to, its a feeling unlike anything else I've experienced before! I cannot wait. =]
Super Bowl XLIII Champs!
On Sunday February 1, 2009 my hometown team of the Pittsburgh Steelers made NFL History and won their sixth superbowl championship!
It was one heck of a game. We had a few friends over, nothing too big. I made a Steelers cake and other munchies. I was so proud when we won! :) [the baby in the picture is our friends' brandnew 6 week old little boy!]
This weekend we are driving to PA so Tony can take the second part of the State Police exam. I'm so excited for him, and so proud :) Good luck darlin!
Snow Fall?!
*this morning at about 7:30am*
*the start of the snow*
*and 30 minutes later!!*
Yup, that is Jacksonville, North Carolina! Only 15 miles from the coast...covered in 2-3 inches of snow! I never in my wildest dreams imagined I'd see snow like this while I lived here. It looks like a winter wonderland. The entire town shutdown from the snow. A local girl I met at work, who has lived here her whole life, once told me she can count on two hands how many times she's seen snow here. I think this is one of the top ones with the most accumulation! She actually called me yesterday all excited about the snow. We worked together many days in a row during the slowest hours of the day, during those slow days we chatted about lots of things. One of them was winter in the north compared to winter in the south. So every time it snows here I get a text or a call, haha!
It snowed all day yesterday from about noon until ten or eleven last night. Tony didn't have to go on base for formation yesterday and today he has a 'delay' until noon. Schools closed, activities canceled. Its a good thing, temps dropped into the 20s last night. I can see the parking lot from my window and it looks like its a sheet of ice. But the sun is out and expected to shine all day, so it should melt quickly.
*voila! my white winter!*
If I hadn't seen it for myself, I wouldn't have believed it!
weekend
*on our walk*
North Carolina has impressed me this week with its cold temperatures! We had lows between 10-15 and highs from 25-30, with windchills in the teens. Impressive! Although back home during these days of these temperatures, it was the single digits and below zero for the highs =P
*frozen fountain, guess they didn't get the memo it was going to be cold!*
*looks like I'm holding the foutain like a platter ;)*
So this weekend Tony has a leave block for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. We had thought it would just be like another weekend but they changed things of course. So we are just here in NC instead of anywhere else. Oh well, we will be moving home for good the beginning of April!
Friday we just hung around relaxing. Yesterday we went on a walk to a nearby park, probably a half a mile away from our apartment. It was cold, but beautiful. After our walk we went to Starbucks for some overpriced coffee! hehe. I had a White Chocolate Mocha and Tony got a Vanilla Bean Frap. Its a cold drink but his favorite nonetheless! I haven't had Starbucks since I was at Pitt, so it was a nice treat. Then later in the evening three of his buddies from work came over and we played some video games and stuff.
Today is the big Steelers game against the Ravens! So in about 6 hours we will be sitting on the couch cheering on the boys, Terrible Towels in hand! I so wish we could be up home for this. My Godmother and her husband have the best Steelers parties that are almost as exciting as being at the game. Next year! =)
